Cycles

Cycles (How we Became Californians) is an ongoing series of drawings on cyanotype prints. The work explores the overlap of my family history and the history of the US-Mexico border.

Geneaological surveys and historical research inform the series. Starting in Baton Rouge and ending in Indio, I race my lineage from two sides of a border and respond visually to a history of racism, xenophobia, and racial capitalism.

Cultural references contextualize what it means to be a mixed-race woman in the 21st century, as we experience a fall into fascism in the imperial core.
